In 1962, Jane and Stephen Hawking met through mutual college friends at a party. When they see each other. Stephen and Jane immediately fell in love.

But sadly in 1963 that Stephen Hawking's life changed forever. Stephen and Jane's relationship didn't take root until after he was diagnosed with motor neuron disease (ALS).

In 1965, Within two years of meeting Jane Wilde, the couple were married and became a family and subsequently had three children, Robert, Lucy, and Tim.

After marriage, Jane was drowning under the stress of caring for Stephen and the children and became very emotionally tired. Because Stephen would often lose himself in thoughts.

In an interview, Jane said “Sometimes Stephen would spend a whole weekend in his wheelchair, elbow resting on his knee like Rodin’s Thinker. He wouldn’t take any notice of the children, or me, and I would become very worried. Was he uncomfortable or ill, or had I upset him in some way?”

Feeling lonely, unloved, and unvalued by the world's most famous living scientist, she eventually became emotionally involved with a choirmaster called Jonathan Hellyer Jones.

In 1990, The marriage and family life for this couple sadly did not last and they separated and divorced five years later.

After some time Stephen went on to fall in love with his nurse Elaine Mason and Jane with Jonathan Jones, a musician. In 1995 Stephen married Mason and Jane went on to marry Jones in 1997.

Stephen's second marriage to Mason also ended in divorce and though Stephen and Jane had a strained relationship particularly during their divorce, over the years they mended their relationship, even living down the street from one another at one point and ended up remaining great friends!

Hawking’s love story with his first wife Jane Wilde was captured in the 2014 Oscar-nominated film The Theory of Everything, starring Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones, for which Redmayne won the Academy Award for best actor in a leading role.
